Draft ordinance of "Napoleon Emperor, Sovereign of the Isle of Elba", written by General Drouot, governor of the Isle of Elba, organising the defence of the island, and corrected by Napoleon's hand.
[Napoleon took possession of the Isle of Elba on 4 May 1814.]
The ordinance contains four articles. "Article 1. General
CAMBRONNE will have command of the square of Porto Ferrajo: he will also have command of Palma Iola. He will be in charge [at the hand of Napoleon:] under the orders of the governor" of stopping the service of the square, presiding over the council of health, seeing to all that is police and security, etc. "Article 2. Napoleon corrected the last line: "A Captain of the Guard will perform the functions of commander of arms in Porto Ferrajo. Napoleon added with his hand: "His appointment will be subject to our approval"... The captains of artillery Cornuel and
Raoul will, respectively, the functions of director of artillery and engineer for the island . "Article 4. As of June 1st, the artillery will proceed with the disarming of Porto Ferrajo and Porto Longone.
The disarming projects will be submitted to me before that time"...
In the margin of the document, Napoleon approves: "approved NP".
