SALICETI Christophe (1757-1809) conventionnel (Corse), chargé de nombreuses missions par la Convention et par Bonaparte

L.S. "Saliceti", Marseilles 30 August 1793, to Xavier AUDOIN, Deputy Minister of War| the letter is written by Joseph Bonaparte| 4 pages in-4.
During the siege of Toulon.
"I have been in Marseilles since it was given back to the Republic| the horrible betrayal of Toulon deprived me of the possibility of going to fulfill my mission in Corsica, I met my colleagues from Aix| in this moment it happens to us of the sailors in crowd escaped from Toulon, we hope to be soon in state to drive out of this important place the eternal enemies of the French name, and to punish the traitors who delivered it to them with so much perfidy"... He recommends for a post of War Commissioner the citizen Alexandre ESCUDIER, brother of his colleague and patriot: "his family is in the hands of the traitors of Toulon, his father in irons, his property is probably their prey"... He ends on a very firm note: "Whatever the number of traitors, let us be convinced that the public thing will be saved, I have a deep feeling about it, but the moment has come when the Republicans must deploy a great character, and show themselves worthy of such a beautiful title"... He adds in postscript that the head of the conventional ESCUDIER is put at a price in Toulon. Xavier AUDOUIN wrote a few lines after the letter.
