Commission for the Marquis de Sade, worthy of the rehabilitation of the condemned man in the Rose Keller case.
The King appoints the Count of SADE, then "Captain Commandant in the regiment of Cavalry of Burgundy", to the rank of maître de camp "in our cavalry troops [...] under our authority and that of the S. Mis de Bethunes Colonel General of our Light Cavalry and the S. Mal de Castries Me de Camp General d'icelle"... [Enrolled in the school of the Chevau-légers in 1754, Sade was appointed second lieutenant in the King-infantry regiment in 1755, then cornette in the Carabinieri regiment of the Count of Provence in 1757, captain in the Burgundy-cavalry regiment in 1759| engaged during this period in the Seven Years' War, he showed a certain bravery.
Although he was promoted to camp maestre in March 1771, he nevertheless resold this office to the Count of Osmont in June 1771, because of his financial distress, and put an end to his military career. Sade will evoke his military life in Aline and Valcour]].
