MOULIN Jean (1889-1943) préfet et célèbre résistant
L.A.S. "Jean", Chartres 8 June 1940, to his mother Mrs Antoine-Émile MOULIN and her sister Laure MOULIN, in Montpellier| 2 pages in-8 on letterhead from the Office of the Prefect of Eure-et-Loir, envelope, with an attachment.
One week before the Germans entered Chartres, Moulin's arrest and attempted suicide (17 June 1940).
"A few words, in a hurry, to give you some news from me and to tell you that everything is going well here, despite the fact that we have a lot to do. The flow of refugees has calmed down and the military news that arrives here is very comforting. It is a real recovery that is taking place.
It was necessary. My friend Mans, who is officially hospitalized at the military hospital for a sprained knee, is always my host and is a cheerful companion in my spare time. Laure must have seen the last issue of Gringoire, where a compilation of Paul Reboux's book by Daddy is spread over a whole page. It's entitled "Fouché amoureux" and subtitled (o irony) "récit inédit". It is by the attached note of S. Denis that I learned it. On reflection it's very good, because it's still advertising"... He adds: "Think about my mas. Even if we were to leave it uncultivated for 2 or 3 years, I'm interested".
He attached the press clipping quoting Grand Amour de Fouché from A.-E. Moulin, stuck on an annotated sheet and signed by Serge Denis.
