LOUISE-MARIE DE FRANCE (1737-1787) dernière fille de Louis XV, elle entra en religion au Carmel de Saint-Denis

L.A.S. "Sr Thérèse de St Augustin Rcj", September 22, 1776, [to Charles Gravier de VERGENNES, Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs]| 1 page in-4.
Request for help for the poet Gilbert, and sending smuggled rosaries to Catholics in Ireland.
She would like him to promise her the next vacant pension for Mr. Gilbert, and to have it "from the tutor of your children who knows him so that it will keep him in good spirits, adding that if you turn to the side of the philosophers you will not give him anything it will surely make a very good effect"... She received his letters and the one that was enclosed in it: "Here is one which I ask you to pass on to Miss de Kavanagh in Ireland with the package which we would not wish to send without your protection. This young lady has contributed to the establishment of the Ursuline Community at Corke and is a nun there, and her sister who is a nun there has sent her a breviary which she has requested with pictures and caplets of merchandise prohibited in this country and which, if it is not sent by you, will surely be confiscated. We have some Mr. Obligation and you will be doing a good deed in rendering this service to Catholics of Ireland and I knew that you like to do this is what gave me the highest esteem for you"...
