LOUIS XIV (1638-1715) Roi de France
L.A. (minute), [circa 1705, to PHILIPPE V of Spain]| 3 pages small in-4 with a few erasures.
Very beautiful letter of advice from the old monarch to the young King of Spain, his grandson.
"I am at ease to take the thoughts you have, they are worthy of your blood and will be of great use to your affairs if you execute them properly and if the state of Spain allows it. I confess that men's thoughts are pleasing and that if you succeed in doing what you want there is nothing that gives you more reputation and glory in the world and especially in our kingdoms, you will win the hearts of your subjects and make those who do not like you esteem you and fear you will be absolutely dear to you, and no one will be able to resist you. May I be happy when I see you in this high point of glory, I will love you more and my esteem will be strengthened and my tenderness will grow stronger when I see you as you are".
