Letter to a friend prisoner, referring to one of the great proponents of Indian independence, Gopal Krishna Gokhale.
[Hermann Kallenbach, of German origin, was then detained in a camp in England.]
After a very trying night - there was barely room to stand in his compartment when he entered - he is in Bombay. Last night was the anniversary of
GOKHALE's death. Gandhi was the main speaker at the meeting. He went from Madras to Rama, where he was to speak at a missionary conference.
He refrains from sending him any cuttings, not knowing if his friend is allowed to receive them. He has in front of him his letter about the things he misses. He will send them as soon as he is in Ahmedabad.
Giving him the biscuits he mentions might be difficult because they don't have an oven| he will have to find a way to make them without, or find a portable oven. So let his friend expect a small delay, however there will be no avoidable delay. In one of his friend's letters, three lines have been completely erased. Gandhi wonders if his friend who did it, or the censor...
