KESCHAN (CHAIN AND WOOL CHAIN
IN COTTON, WOOL VELVOURS),
PERSEAN CENTRE, TOWARDS 1920-1930
Keschan was very early a city renowned for
the culture of the mulberry trees and the spinning of silk.
The fabrics and shawls of Keschan were famous
in the Sephardic period (16th- 18th c.).) and
many "Polish" carpets were woven there.
From the second half of the 19th century, Keschan
again played an important role in
the Persian production of quality carpets,
especially thanks to Mostashem, a weaver
who gave his name to the quality carpets.
The carpet is enhanced by an elegant floral decoration
stylized polychrome on a navy blue background.
A wide navy blue border, which reproduces
the same decoration, is framed by four
red and ivory counter-borders
