) Amitâbha, who reigns over the Pure Land of the West, sketches with his raised right hand the gesture of argumentation, varada-mudrâ, while the left hand lowers in dhyana-mudra, a gesture of concentration or meditation| in his tiara appears his main attribute, the vase containing the liquor of immortality. Avalokiteshvara makes the gesture of giving, varada-mudra, with his right hand facing the earth, while his left hand rises in appeasement. Lord of Infinite Compassion, he is regarded as an emanation of Amitâbha, whose active force he represents as a Bodhisattva.
This is symbolized by the presence of a small figure of Amitâbha in the tiara of Avalokiteshvara.
The deities are both seated on a separate pedestal in the form of a blooming lotus flower with three rows of petals.
