Set in portfolio containing 35 preparatory plates, coloured or enhanced with white, representing various scenes from everyday life with a gallery of famous people including the Baron and Baroness de Rothschild, Viscount Louis de Turenne, Pierre d'Arenberg, etc.
Each character is named in pencil.
An autograph preface signed and dated October 1900, in brown ink, is attached to the set: "Preface. When I published my first sketches this summer, I was not unscrupulous and apprehensive, but I was quickly reassured. The people I allowed myself to represent, by accepting this little exhibition, have created, so to speak, a precedent, which allows me, I hope, to consider from now on the fact of appearing in these albums as something admitted".
