Original edition of the "first painter's book published in France, in the spirit of what was to become a rich tradition from Ambroise Vollard to Aimé Maeght" (Michel Melot). One of the 350 copies on Holland.
Collection of 42 poems by different authors (Anatole France, Sully Prudhomme, Banville,
Heredia, Leconte de Lisle,...) illustrated with 42 etchings by the most famous artists of the time, including a plate by
Manet in aquatint, landscapes by Corot,
Jongkind or Millet, compositions by Doré,
Nanteuil and Bracquemond, and a drawing by
Victor Hugo. With the exception of Victor Hugo, all the artists drew directly on the plate.
