Very rare edition of this much sought-after collection on the legislation of the French colonies of America, the first one printed by the Prault family, who published two others in 1767 and 1788. It contains the sixty articles of the Code Noir, the famous text promulgated by the royal edict of March 1685 regulating the living conditions of slaves in the West Indies (pp. 23-60), the fifty-five articles of the edict of March 1724 regulating slavery in Louisiana (pp. 318-358), as well as various edicts and letters patent concerning the establishment of the Company of Guinea, Santo
Domingo and Africa.
