May 29 [1838]. Please go to a meeting of the commission which he chaired, "charged with the examination of the proposal of Mr. Passy on the abolition of slavery".... 8 December 1840.
"I have just read your account with the greatest interest. I have been present at everything. You described everything with an imagination as lively as your emotion was true. Print this"... December 10, 1840: "The King has just appointed you Commander of the Legion of Honour. You took this rank at Ste Hélène, on Napoleon's coffin"... 21 January 1841, thanking for the volume [Diary written aboard the frigate "La Belle Poule"]: "The account is simple and striking.
