Babinet recommends the introduction of herrings in the European and American lakes, but it is "especially the seal, an animal high in the organic scale and very intelligent", that he would like to see brought in the artificial lakes of the woods of Boulogne and Vincennes, and the lakes of Switzerland and Italy: he puts the Imperial Acclimatization Society "in residence to get these curious and educable amphibians"...
