For Miss D... A... [Diane Andrée, friend of Cazals and Verlaine], sonnet published in the enlarged edition of Dédicaces (Vanier, 1894), room
XC. The manuscript is marked "Varia" in the margin, and Verlaine added a "tout" to the 2nd and 4th lines of the first quatrain| a variant is found in the penultimate line.

at a gallop and at a trot."... "And this is the moment when you die"... First draft and working draft of a poem published in La Revue parisienne of November 25, 1893 (Le Livre posthume - Fragments, V) and collected in 1903 in Le Livre posthume des OEuvres posthumes (Librairie Léon Vanier, A. Messein, 1903). It consists of six quatrains| the first seven verses were written in ink, the rest in pencil, with numerous erasures and corrections.
In the margin at the bottom, Verlaine has drawn a little soldier (or policeman) in graphite. In the top margin, Albert Messein has inscribed a certificate of authenticity.

Supreme Night in my extreme
night Mourning of mourning, misfortune of misfortune
It seems to me that I am dying myself"...
