DODGSON Charles Lutwige, dit LEWIS CARROLL 1832-1898)

L.A.S. "C.L. Dodgson", Eastbourne 2 August 1889, to Beatrice Ethel
HERON-MAXWELL| 2 pages in-12 in violet ink| in English.
To the lady-in-waiting of the Duchess of Albany, in charge of her children, Princess Alice and Prince Charles-Edward.
It took a long time to bind Alice Underground, which he wishes to present to the Duchess ("They have been an enormous time, binding the copy of Alice Underground which I hope to present to the
Duchess")| but it is promised to be sent to him now, and he expects to receive it today. What should he do with it? He sees in the gazettes that S.A.R. has gone, or is about to go abroad. Should he send the volume to Miss Maxwell, to be forwarded? Or will the
Duchess be so constantly travelling that it's best to keep it for her until she returns to England?...
An L.A.S. of the cartoonist John TENNIEL (1820-1914) is attached to Herbert
OAKES-JONES, Maida Hill [London] 20 February 1901, regretting that he no longer possesses original drawings from Alice's books for his exhibition.
