BRETON André (1896-1966)

L.A.S. "André Breton", Paris December 26, 1948, to Francis DUMONT| 1 page and a quarter in-4, heading Compagnie de l'Art brut.
He admits his faults, not answering: "It is, in a way, unforgivable, I do not hide it from myself. I even have here two books of yours whose weight against me is added to the scales of justice (fortunately one of them is from Mr. GARAUDY). But I don't feel like joking, believe me. You must, even with all the mood in the world, do without me, at least this text. The ways to undertake it have not opened up, I probably did not spend the last few times on the side I wanted. I am more and more opposed to forced labour, especially for such eclectic journals to conceive the opportunity of special Stalinist issues, for example. I am convinced that what you have put together [...] is perfectly sufficient without me. All I regret is that I may have indisposed you personally.
I hope that you will not hold it against me for good...".
