Count Bartholomew de LAS CASES Jr| 2 and a half pages in-8, envelope.

Condolences to the grandson of the St. Helena Memorialist,
on the death of his father.

"The news of the death of the Count of Lascases your father has deeply saddened me
. He had by his devotion held to perpetuate a tradition
of family, born in St. Helena, but which has not, I know, died out with
him. I would be very pleased if the expression of sympathy that I send you
from exile could soften the pain of the blow that strikes you, because I cannot
forget that in the land of exile the untiring attachment of one of yours to
consoles the misfortune of the first of my race" .

of a letter from Eugenie (February 23, 1873) in response to the condolences of
Las Cases on the death of Napoleon III.
