NAPOLEON III (1808-1873).
2 L.A.S. "Louis Napoleon Bonaparte", London 2 and 6 December 1832,
to Count Emmanuel de LAS CASES| 1 page in-8 each, addresses.
About the St. Helena Memorial.
2 December. "The Memorial of St. Helena of which you are the author being
rightly one of the most interesting works that has been published
on the Emperor Napoleon, I have endeavoured to extract from it the most remarkable passages
and to put them in order of subject matter. I make
precede this compilation with a preface where I dare to give some particular ideas
about the life of the great man. I do not want to print this
work before having your assent. Although this publicaton does not take away
nothing of the merit of the original work, if it could be unpleasant for you I would renounce
rather than displease a person whom I esteem as much as
you and to whom I would like to be able to prove my friendship"... 6 December, he
takes up the content of the previous letter, explaining in postscript that he
had sent the first one to a friend, with a request to give it to Las Cases|
"I learn today that he is absent from the capital"...
