Wooden tonkotsu, with carved decoration of a Baku on one side and a bat flying above the waves next to a longhorn pine tree, the lid decorated with a bat whose eyes are inlaid with horn, the inside formerly lacquered in gold. With an apocryphal mark on the base, giving a Chinese date, 2nd year of Yongzheng's reign (1724).
Dim. 6.3 x 10.3 cm (Full height slit, restored from the inside. One eye of the bat missing).
A wooden lid (Japan, 19th century) with a bronze element is attached, with a central decoration in light relief of a chrysanthemum, the periphery chiselled with foliage scrolls.
