King Charles V, portrayed by Titian in a position of strength, donning his armour and on horseback, is shown bent over in front of the painter in order to retrieve the brush that has fallen to the ground. Titian, standing in front of him and the work in front of his canvas, turns to witness this homage. To the left of the stage, a group of men are chatting vividly against the backdrop of a war scene.
On the back of the drawing, an inscription reads in French: "There will always be kings but there will only be one Titian".
