Before my health was completely ruined and when I was still going out sometimes, I remember seeing you, at Weber's, with one of the writers for whom I have the deepest admiration, to whom I also owe, for a long time now, the greatest gratitude: Mr. Charles MAURRAS. Maybe since you are related to him, do you know, or could you find out who signs Jacques BAINVILLE in the Gazette France. It has been published under this signature a chronicle on my translation that I have just made of RUSKIN (...). This column is rather unkind. However, the very fact that a column has been devoted to me must be a tribute to the kindness of Mr Maurras and I would like to thank him (...). Jacques Bainville's chronicle, July 2, 1906, was partly devoted to the translation by Proust Sésame et les Lys by John RUSKIN]- [July 1906]. Thank you a thousand times dear Sir for your kind information. And don't bother rewriting me for Sesame! ...- [April 7, 1922], before the publication of Sodom and Gomorrah II. I've got a lot of apologizing for the dinner without ladies the other night. I knew you weren't free| and I knew the opposite too late. Another excuse is caused by this. Bad luck has meant that on the rare occasions that I have been able to have dinner with you, you had written an article about me a fortnight beforehand, so that it looked like a very stupid thank you (...) When I saw you the day before yesterday, I had not corrected a single proof, and to tell the truth, I don't even know if it was done at all, because knowing that I was out of condition to do this work, I think it was on the manuscript itself (that the right to print was established).
