Rare letter to his sister, Thérèse Morbilli (1840-1912), of which he painted several portraits. The painter talks about his serious sight problems and the help of his friend and patron Henri Rouart. It is true, my dear Therese, I should have answered your good letter about my 72 years, but boredom, the disgust of writing, hold me and will only increase. Ah, my poor eyes! When they leave me altogether, when I can't work a bit more, I'll go crazy| that's all. Without the good Rouart, I'd be abandoned. They're so loyal, so loving, I can't believe it. They tirelessly nag me to go to the little house they lent me last year. And I don't listen to them, tied up, riveted to the sacred sculpture, to which I don't come (...).
