The Republic. Paris, Ambroise Drouart, 1600. In-folio, eggplant calf, double framed with two cold fillets, fleuron at the corners, large central cartouche with oval medallion in reserve, ornate back, inside lace, gilt edges on marbling (Ducharne).
Important edition of Plato in the translation of the humanist Loys Le Roy (1510-1577), known as Regius, professor of Greek language at the Royal College and one of the best Hellenists
of his time.

Published posthumously by Frédéric Morel, its regular printer, it contains the first complete French translation of the ten books of the republic as well as three Platonic treatises on the immortality of the soul (the Phædo, Gorgias and the

Phaedra).
