MAILLARD (Olivier)
Sermones de adventu: declamati Parisius in ecclesia sancti Johannis in gravia. [Paris], Philippe Pigouchet, 7 May 1500-Sermones quadragesimales. Paris], Philippe Pigouchet, June 26, 1500. 2 parts in one volume large in-12, marbled brown calf, spine with flowered ribs, red morocco titleplate, red edges (Binding of the 18th century).

.
Olivier Maillard (1430-1502), preacher and confessor to Charles VII, owes his reputation to the brutality of his sermons, particularly those given in the church of Saint-Jean-en-Grève in Paris, full of strong and grotesque images. Rare testimony on the slang language of the late Middle Ages, in his sermons, the editio princeps edition of which appeared in 1498, he borrows from those he blames their coarse language taken from the wrong
places.
Short copy of margins, marginal soiling on some leaves, rubbed hinges and flats, missing head and tail, blunt corners. Very good condition inside with old handwritten annotations in the margins and on the back of the last leaf.
