Soly Cissé: Valuation and Market Value

A Poet of Color: The Work of Soly Cissé

A leading figure in the contemporary African art scene, Soly Cissé offers a poetic and timeless vision of the world through the power of color. Born in 1969 in Dakar, he grew up in an environment rich in cultural traditions and spirituality that have had a lasting impact on his artistic sensibility. A graduate of the École des Beaux-Arts in Dakar, he is fascinated not only by light, in contrast to darkness, but also by the essence of colors.

Nature occupies a central place in Soly Cissé’s work, as evidenced by the titles of some of his pieces, such as “Période de chaleur,” “Terre humide,” and “Plan de chasse.” Drawing on his childhood memories of the wilderness and contemporary realities, he explores the relationships between humans and their natural environment. At the turn of the 2000s, Soly Cissé adopted a new, highly spiritual style of figurative art. Characterized by black and figures drawn from the Lost Worlds, these representations reveal a certain reality of the human condition.

A multidisciplinary artist, Soly Cissé creates not only paintings and drawings, but also sculptures made of wood or fiberglass painted with acrylics.
