Mouton Rothschild

The story of Château Mouton Rothschild began in 1853 when Baron Nathaniel de Rothschild purchased Château Bran-Mouton at auction and renamed it Château Mouton Rothschild. In 1922, Baron Nathaniel's great-grandson, Philippe de Rothschild, took over the estate. He was the one who introduced the practice of bottling at the château. Four years later, with the help of architect Charles Siclis, he built a very large, modern cellar over 100 meters long. Mouton Cadet wine, Bordeaux AOC, was first marketed in 1933. In 1945, following World War II, the house of Mouton Rothschild created a bottle label featuring the letter "V" for "Victory," which was widely popular with the public.

In 1973, Château Mouton Rothschild was classified as a Grand Cru, a long-anticipated distinction for the house. In 1988, after the death of Philippe de Rothschild, his daughter, Philippine de Rothschild, took over the business. She launched the "Aile d'Argent" wine in 1991 and "Le Petit Rothschild" in 1993, both of which enjoyed great success. More recently, in 2014, her children Camille, Philippe, and Julien took over the company.

Today, purchasing a bottle of Mouton Rothschild wine has become a symbol of good taste. This Grand Cru is a magnificent blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Verdot. In recent years, Château Mouton Rothschild wines have set auction records. We regularly offer Château Mouton Rothschild wines at auction.
