Impressionist & Modern Art
Jacques Majorelle was a painter from Lorraine, born in 1886, and the son of the cabinetmaker Louis Majorelle. Initially trained as a decorative architect, he eventually turned to painting, a passion that led him to move to Paris. The artist traveled extensively in North Africa, especially in Egypt and Morocco, where he was captivated by the exceptional light and colors. He moved permanently to Morocco around 1919.
Majorelle is renowned for his splendid Orientalist paintings, drawing inspiration from the traditions and daily life of North African countries. He continued to travel widely, notably in sub-Saharan Africa after the end of World War II, which became a new source of inspiration for him.
