Etienne Alphonse Dinet
Specialties
Impressionist & Modern Art
Born into the bourgeoisie of the Second Empire, he enrolled at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, then at the Académie Julian, studying under Bouguereau and Robert-Fleury. Rooted in the tradition of academic painters, he stood in stark contrast to the Impressionists. From 1882 onward, he exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français, achieving steady success. In 1884, he embarked on his first journey to Algeria, a country that captivated him profoundly. His paintings, with their vivid, radiant colors and sensuous depictions of young, nude women, attracted a large clientele and earned him the recognition of his peers. In 1896, he was awarded the title of Chevalier of the Legion of Honor and converted to Islam.
