The Taste of "French" Collection

Nearly €3,400,000 in total sales from 700 lots, 3 days of exhibitions, and 2 consecutive days of auctions at Drouot attracted numerous enthusiasts and collectors, primarily from France and Europe. This very classical collection, "à la française," gathered over 25 years by Christine and Thierry de Chirée, presented a homogeneous and impressive array of drawings, old paintings, sculptures, furniture, and high-quality art objects from their residence at the Visitation Convent located in the heart of Avignon. The auction totaled €3,354,000, including €1,783,000 for furniture and €1,570,000 for old paintings and drawings.

The entire collection of works by Constantin d’Aix, a favorite artist of the collection, was particularly successful, totaling €232,000. Additionally, there was a preemption by the Louvre Museum for the painting "Portrait of a Man Smoking a Pipe and Sketches of Hands" by Nicolas de Largillière (Paris 1656-1746), which sold for €29,000.
