A unique collection, displayed to thousands of visitors for the first and last time at the famous Gare des Brotteaux in Lyon (classified as a Historic Monument) and then at Drouot.
Over 300 collectible items, paintings, documents, and photographs from the first crossing of the Sahara, the Croisière Noire, and the Croisière Jaune were auctioned off. All of these items passed through the hands of André Citroën, Georges-Marie Haardt, and Alexandre Iacovleff, and were preserved by Louis Audouin-Dubreuil and then his daughter Ariane. These crucial archives on these missions, from geographical, historical, and ethnographic perspectives, were sold to the delight of both enthusiasts and institutions.
"World records were achieved for the drawings of Alexandre Iacovleff, including €235,986.20 including tax for Agona, niece of Chief EkiBondo (Bondo). Many souvenirs from the Croisières and objects belonging to Louis Audouin-Dubreuil were successfully auctioned, such as a Louis Vuitton camp bed trunk that sold for €7,650 including tax, and a beautiful set of four suitcases from the same manufacturer that went for €19,750 including tax.
During this auction, the State preempted three times on historical photographs and documents, which will join the national museums." Noteworthy bids also included a significant lot of 110 colorized glass plates from the CROISIÈRE JAUNE (M.O. WILLIAMS) that fetched €9,200 including tax, and a collection of 50 vintage silver prints from the CROISIÈRE NOIRE, stemming from a photographic report from Colomb-Béchar to Tananarive, which sold for €6,600 including tax.
A beautiful poster illustrated by V. Desmeures for the CROISIÈRE NOIRE (2nd Citroën Mission – Film directed by Léon Poirier) sold for €15,300 including tax, as did another illustrated by Georges Lepape titled GAUMONT presents in the best cinemas the great documentary film Raid Citroën – The Crossing of the Sahara by Autochenilles Mission Haardt – Audouin-Dubreuil, which was auctioned for €11,500 including tax.
