Specialties
Impressionist & Modern Art
Born in 1861 in Aude to a modest family, Achille Laugé initially set out to become a pharmacist. However, he chose to attend the École des Beaux-Arts in Toulouse, where he had the fortune of meeting figures like Antoine Bourdelle, Henri Martin, and Henri Marre.
At the age of 21, Laugé moved to Paris to join the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts. There, he encountered artists such as Georges Seurat, Paul Signac, and Camille Pissarro, who inspired him and contributed to his academic training. Eventually, he returned to his family’s roots and developed his own neo-impressionist style. The techniques he acquired during his training gradually gave way to a new approach, characterized by very luminous tones.
He settled simply and even took part in the construction of his own home, L’Alouette, where he set aside a dedicated space for his studio work. This peaceful haven allowed him to thrive artistically, painting views from his window and blending outdoor and indoor subjects.
Although often rejected by the Salon, he gained considerable appreciation in more avant-garde galleries such as Galerie Bernheim and Galerie Georges Petit. Today, his work is highly regarded in the art market.
