Aguttes is hosting its fourth auction dedicated to collectible cards from October 15 to 22, 2024. On this occasion, a rare Pokémon card will be presented, estimated between €150,000 and €300,000. It is a PSA-graded Pikachu Illustrator card (1998 Promo). For the very first time, this card is up for auction in France and Europe at an auction house.

Pokémon Card: Exceptional Pikachu Illustrator card, PSA-graded (1998 Promo).
Estimate: €150,000 – €300,000.

“This card is a true trophy, a must-have for the biggest Pokémon enthusiasts. Owning this piece brings collectors into the realm of globally unique collections.”
— Thierry, collectible card expert.

No other Pokémon card can match the combination of popularity, rarity, and mythical status of the Pikachu Illustrator. With its iconic design and rich history, it is the most coveted card in the Pokémon franchise. The artist Atsuko Nishida, who helped create Pikachu for the Game Boy games, designed the Pikachu Illustrator. Initially awarded to the winners of a drawing contest held by CoroCoro Comics in January 1998, this card is now one of the most sought-after pieces by collectors.

The publication initially distributed 23 copies of this collector’s item. Later art contests, where participants designed their own Pokémon cards judged either by their artwork or attacks, awarded an additional 16 copies, bringing the total to a still-minuscule estimate of 39 copies, although several more have surfaced and been authenticated since. The card’s design, which depicts Pikachu joyfully illustrating Charmander and Mew, recalls the origins of this now-famous card. In 2023, a PSA 10 graded version of the same card was acquired by Logan Paul for $5,275,000, setting a Guinness World Record for the most expensive Pokémon card ever purchased.

Also featured in this auction is a special collection from YouTuber Miss Jirachi.

Miss Jirachi is a content creator who has been collecting Pokémon cards for over 10 years. She shares her passion with her community on social media through various unboxings and collection showcases. All the first edition Pokémon sealed booster packs (estimated value of over €30,000) will be included.
