SELMA GÜRBÜZ & MARCO DEL RE (XX-XXI)
Meeting IV, 2003 Ink on Nepali paper, signed and dated lower right 122 x 300 cm PROVENANCE Acquired in 2003 at Galerie Maeght, Paris Private Collection, Neuilly-sur-Seine EXHIBITION Paris, Galerie Maeght, Cara a cara, Selma GÜRBÜZ & Marco DEL RE, 2003 "Dear Marco, our trip will be a great adventure. Before us, two-headed lions, behind us, Roman busts, each tree we meet will tell us a story and the Byzantine angels will be our shadows. The Ottoman eyes will protect us. "Turkish artist Selma Gürbüz uses ink to illustrate in a personal and imaginative way the themes of nature, mythology and history, most often on homemade media. His work is mainly inspired by the different currents of Turkish culture. For example, it is inspired by Persian and Ottoman Chintamani motifs while integrating animals to symbolize fear and collective anxiety of the unknown. Selma Gürbüza has exhibited in many museums, institutions and biennials in Asia and Europe. In 2000, she began collaborating with the Italian artist Marci del Re through exhibitions in Barcelona, Istanbul and Paris. The two artists create a long series of works painted "with four hands" where their imagination intersects in an east-west dialogue.
