Jaguar Type E Coupé 3.8 Série 1 – 1963 - Lot 37
Jaguar Type E Coupé 3.8 Série 1 – 1963 German registration title SANS RÉSERVE The XK 120, 140 and 150 roadsters played a major role in establishing Jaguar’s sporting image, particularly through their success in competition. But as the years passed, Jaguar needed to find a worthy successor to its glorious history. So the Coventry-based company worked in the utmost secrecy on what it would call the E-Type, in reference to the C-Type and D-Type that had dominated the 24 Hours of Le Mans and many other international races... Unveiled in Geneva, rather than London, to emphasise its international ambitions, the E-Type was an instant success and was quickly voted ‘the most beautiful car in the world’ by motoring journalists. Cladding a very light tubular chassis, English designer Malcom Sayer gave his creation an immensely long bonnet, which contributes to the magnetism it exerts on audiences both past and present. Much less expensive than its direct competitors, with a sporty chassis and first-rate performance, the E-Type had it all... This is even more true today, and we are delighted to present this splendid E-Type 3.8 Series 1 coupé, sold new in France through the official importer Charles Delecroix in September 1963 to its first owner, Mr Lamache, who lived in Nancy, in Opalescent Dark Green with a beige leather interior, which it still has today. Mr Lamache moved to Paris and sold the car to its second owner, a Frenchman living in Paris, in... 1991. The current and third owner purchased it in 2014. The car is in beautiful condition, with its original leather upholstery, although it was partially repainted over 10 years ago. It is in good health and fully functional, with its engine having been restored in 2014, and will delight its next – and fourth! – owner. E-Type enthusiasts, don’t miss this Series 1 3.8 Coupé with a clear history...
