Alfa Romeo Giulia 1300 Ti – 1965 - Lot 95
Alfa Romeo Giulia 1300 Ti – 1965 French registration title June 27, 1962, Monza Autodrome, Alfa Romeo presents the Giulia TI (for Turismo Internazionale) sedan to replace the aging Giulietta, and to compete with the forthcoming Ford Cortina GT in the touring car segment. The first models were equipped with the 1600 twin-camt engine, and it wasn't until 1964 that an entry-level version appeared, equipped with the 1300, a 4-speed gearbox (then (5-speed gearbox) with steering-wheel gearshift (floor-mounted gearshift from 1966), a simplified interior and a twin-headlamp grille. Compared to the Giulietta, there were a number of changes, including revised suspension and a new gearbox. In the end, the Giulia's roadholding was far superior to that of the Giulietta, with its low weight and wind-tunnel aerodynamics enabling the little Ti 1300 to propel passengers – and luggage – at 170 km/h. Our example is a 1965 first series, in the possession of its current owner for 20 years. The bodywork was rebuilt at the time and has a nice patina, while the engine (original, as well as the 5-speed gearbox) has been regularly serviced since that time. The fabric interior is original and very well cared for. Our test drive confirmed the engine's ability to take off and delivered outstanding performance, both in terms of power and running gear. Giulia 1300 Ti models with steering-wheel-mounted 5-speed gearboxes are no longer so commonplace, and this example, with its old-fashioned charm and attractive patina, is sure to please both experienced and novice enthusiasts
