Alfa Romeo GTAm (R) – 1969 - Lot 99
Alfa Romeo GTAm (R) – 1969 French historic registration title Prepared racing car, including roll cage, sold without contrôle technique At the very beginning of the 1970s, international competitions were giving pride of place to less than 2-litre cars, and after the 1300 and 1600 GTA, Alfa Romeo entrusted the wizard Autodelta with the task of developing a 1750 racing car. Contrary to popular belief, the Alfa Romeo GTAm was not derived from the GTA, but from the American version of the GTV 1750, hence the suffix “Am”. This engine featured Spica fuel injection, offering considerable development potential for the renowned, high-performance twin-shaft engine. It also received dual ignition, and its displacement was increased to 1,985 and then 1,995 cc to compete in the less than 2-liter class, enabling it to develop 240 hp at 7,500 rpm in its most advanced version. As regulations imposed a minimum weight of 900 kg, the GTAm was not overweight, but the front and rear hoods were made of fiberglass, while the doors were made of aluminum. The exterior also featured ultra-wide rims and aggressive riveted fender extensions, adding to the bestiality of the whole. Unlike the GTAs, the GTAMs were not included in the brand's official catalog, but sold through Autodelta, which built around forty cars, and sold parts for cars that were subsequently transformed... It was the GTAm that enabled Alfa to win the European Touring Car Championship in 1971 and 1972... ahead of BMW and Ford among others. > The example we're presenting is a very well executed original Italian rebuild, with a PTH of 2016. The engine, fitted with Spica injection and a single-ignition cylinder head, is a high-performance performer. The self-locking 9/43 axle is also compliant, with its sliding system. The bonnets are made of fiberglass, the doors of steel. This car boasts a fine track record in historic racing, notably at the Tour Auto with several scratch wins and a podium finish in 2021 (Plateau G) with the Olivier Pernaut / Grégory Cohen crew. Perfectly prepared, ready to race, and well known on the historic scene with notable results, this magnificent, high-performance GTAm, which bears some of the hallmarks of racing cars, will delight any gentleman driver, whether a beginner or an experienced driver, wishing to take the start of the next Tour Auto... and win it?
