Citroën DS 23 Ambulance Currus 250 CD – 1974 - Lot 11
Citroën DS 23 Ambulance Currus 250 CD – 1974 French registration title Right from the start, the DS Break was marketed as an ambulance. Its comfort, thanks to its suspension, its generous dimensions and its interior space, made it a favourite choice. A number of specialist companies will be proposing innovative layouts, including raised roofs and special medical equipment. Currus, based near Paris, specialised in modifying Citroën vehicles. From 1969 onwards, it offered a raised and lengthened station wagon. This model, called the 240 CD, was a success both aesthetically and technically, as it could accommodate two stretchers and a plethora of medical equipment. It was renamed the 250 CD with the arrival of the DS 23, and a total of 120 examples were produced. Our ambulance underwent a major restoration in the workshops of specialist DS Repar between 2012 and 2018. The bodywork was restored and repainted in its original Meije white colour. The platform has been replaced. A book with numerous photos and explanations retraces the various stages of the restoration. The interior is in its original state, with the upholstery and sanitary unit very well preserved. Our test drive was a success, and the siren and flashing beacon are functional. Offered at a very attractive price, given the high cost of restoration, our example will appeal to collectors looking for an unusual car that can once again play a starring role in the movies!
