Alfa Romeo 1750 GTAm - Lot 40
Alfa Romeo 1750 GTAm 1971 Chassis no. AR1391671 Spanish registration document Spanish registration title At the very beginning of the 1970s, international competitions were giving pride of place to less than 2-litre cars, and after the 1300 and 1600 GTA, Alfa Romeo entrusted the wizard Autodelta with the task of developing a 1750 racing car. Contrary to the Alfa Romeo GTAm is not derived from the GTA, but from the American version of the GTV 1750, hence the suffix "Am". This engine featured Spica fuel injection, offering considerable development potential for the renowned, high-performance twin-shaft engine. It also received dual ignition and its displacement was increased to 1,985 then 1,995 cm3 to compete in the under 2,000 cm3 category, enabling it to develop 240 bhp at 7,500 rpm in its most advanced version. As regulations imposed a minimum weight of 900 kg, the GTAm was not overweight, but the front and rear hoods were made of fiberglass, while the doors were made of aluminum. The exterior also featured ultra-wide rims and aggressive riveted fender extensions, adding to the bestiality of the whole. Unlike the GTAs, the GTAMs were not included in the brand's official catalog, but sold through Autodelta, which built around forty cars, and sold parts for cars that were subsequently transformed... It was the GTAm that enabled Alfa to win the European Touring Car Championship in 1971 and 1972... ahead of BMW and Ford among others. The car illustrated here began its career in Angola, where it was sold new in 1970. We find it, registration number AAD-95-18, driven by its owner, António Peixinho, a Portuguese gentleman driver with a brilliant career, who successfully drove Ferrari 250 GTO and Alfa Romeo Tipo 33 among others! Our GTAm is said to have raced on the Restinga circuit in 1972 and on the Carmona circuit in 1974. The era (independence in 1975, instability and civil war at the end of the 1970s) doesn't help to trace the track record of our car, which seems to have been racing in Italy at the end of the 1970s. We'll have to wait until 2012 to find it again, at the dawn of its second life, at the forefront of the historic scene, driven by a renowned Spanish gentleman driver. Jarama, Algarve, Jerex, Spa, Castellet: the car is a regular fixture at Spanish races and those organized by Peter Auto. It even took part in the Tour Auto in 2014. Today, the car is in excellent condition, ready to take part in the greatest historic events, thanks in particular to its PTH, recently obtained and valid until the end of 2034. Invoices from the early 2010s show work costing in excess of €40,000... On this subject, please note that - like other GTAm historic cars - the car is homologated with a single-ignition, carburettor engine. It is also sold with a second, more recently built, 2-litre, twin-ignition engine, which can be collected on pallet from the seller in Spain at the end of the sale. GTAm's are rare on the market, and this ready-to-run example, offered at a very attractive valuation, will satisfy the enthusiast looking for a versatile, easy-to-handle, high-performance car. It's ideal for the Tour Auto 2026 or any of the most prestigious races on the calendar. In addition to the hammer price, the successful bidder will be required to pay the following buyer's fees per lot: - For sales in the Classic Automobiles department (sliding scale fees) : - 16% exclusive of tax + VAT at the prevailing rate, i.e. 19.2% inclusive of tax on the first €900,000 inclusive of tax - 12% exclusive of tax + VAT at the prevailing rate, i.e. 14.4% inclusive of tax above €900,001
