* Citroën DS 19 « ailes cendriers » – 1962 - Lot 69
* Citroën DS 19 « ailes cendriers » – 1962 Swiss registration title, in temporary importation Produced for just one model year, this DS represents a significant evolution in the model’s history. Equipped with a 12-volt electrical system and the 83 hp three-main-bearing engine, which had recently undergone several updates, its bodywork retained the original design but, for the first time, featured vented fenders to improve engine cooling. These are more commonly known as “ashtray fenders”, and at the time, the press widely reported on the substantial mechanical advancements of the DS. Our example is a rare model produced between August 29, 1961, and August 1962. Delivered new in Switzerland, it was first registered on May 24, 1962, and remained in use until 1981. Mr. D. discovered it in 2014. The car was in completely original condition, showing 20,000 kilometers on the odometer, though he suspects it had likely covered 100,000 more. While the bodywork needed attention, the car had never been modified and had retained its stunning original Jura Green fabric interior. Even rarer, its dashboard was in perfect condition. Notably, this model year introduced the second-generation DS dashboard, marking an important evolution in the car’s history. A full restoration was undertaken, completed in 2015. The car was completely disassembled, from the chassis to the bodywork, leaving no detail overlooked. The engine was fully rebuilt, as was the hydraulic gearbox. The entire hydraulic system was restored and converted to green fluid, ensuring greater reliability and longevity. This is a remarkable and rare example. Distinguished by its vented fenders, it has been extensively displayed at various events and concours, including special showcases at the request of L’Aventure Peugeot Citroën DS, which recognized its unique features and authenticity, particularly its beautifully preserved original interior.
