Volvo P1800 ES – 1972 - Lot 45
Volvo P1800 ES – 1972 French historic registration title The P1800 was presented at the Brussels Motor Show in January 1960, and again in April in New York. The cars, initially built at Jensen, were then assembled at the Torslanda factory in Sweden. Production lasted until June 1972, with 39,414 Volvo P1800s, then 1800 Ss (for Sweden) and 1800 Es (injection) built. In August 1971, the coupé was joined by a newcomer, the Jaktvagn, or hunting car in Swedish. This sublime hunting station wagon, called the 1800 ES, was still being studied by Frua, and was built in just two years, with 8,077 units built by June 1973, only in the fuel-injected version with the 2-litre B20 engine. The P1800 we are interested in here is a fuel-injected version, sold new in the USA. Released in January 1972, it was originally painted Cypress Green with a black leatherette interior. It will arrive in France in December 2021 to join the collection of a Breton enthusiast who will register it here. The Volvo’s history is exceptional and crystal clear. It has belonged to a family in the state of Ohio since 1988. All its maintenance is documented, with a large number of invoices and, above all, a complete restoration undertaken in 2006 that is fully visible in the photos. The car runs very satisfactorily, with perfectly tuned mechanics and has been very well maintained throughout its life. It has recently been serviced, with the oil and filters changed and the wiring harness overhauled. Volvo P1800s have breathtaking lines, with that famous 2-door ‘shooting break’ look, and although we see them occasionally, it’s rare to find a model with such a complete and documented history since it was first put on the road. These cars are endearing and, above all, very reliable.
