Adler Trumpf Junior Sport Roadster – 1935 - Lot 22
Adler Trumpf Junior Sport Roadster – 1935 French historic registration title In 1880, Heinrich Kleyer, a German engineer, founded a company producing bicycles. Within 5 years, the small Frankfurt factory was transformed into a large company, and renamed ‘Adler’ (eagle in German). A direct competitor of BMW and Opel at the time, Adler produced a myriad of cars, motorbikes, typewriters and trucks, before dying a few years after the Second World War, disappearing into the Volkswagen fold. In 1932, Kleyer designed the Trumpf, a small-displacement mass-market model intended to provide affordable motoring for the German population. Two engines were initially offered, before the arrival two years later of the Junior version, with its small 1-litre 4-cylinder engine! Available in a range of open and closed body styles, the prize for elegance will go to the sumptuous Sport Roadster version, made entirely of aluminium, of which only 250 will be produced. The Adler brand would reach the pinnacle of its fame with this car, and with its more than admirable result at the 1937 Le Mans 24 Hours, finishing 15th in the performance index! The story of the car we present here goes back to 1946, the year in which it was first registered in France! Our collector bought this car in 1999 from Mr Beaurin, from Seine-Maritime, who had himself bought it in 1964 in Argenteuil as a student! According to the archives of the Vienne prefecture, the car had previously been registered on the 19th of May 1946 as ‘939 BG 86’. Today, the car proudly sports a sumptuous patina, accumulated over the 25 years since its last restoration. Its 4-cylinder engine, completely rebuilt in 1999 (photos in the file), works well and is much more pleasant than imagined, thanks to the bodywork made entirely of aluminium! Rare pre-war collectors, here is a little-known car with pure lines and a touching history!
