Jaguar XK 120 Open Two Seater – 1951 - Lot 21
Jaguar XK 120 Open Two Seater – 1951 French historic registration title The 1948 Earls Court Motor Show saw the presentation of Jaguar’s latest model, hastily produced to make up for the absence of the future Mk VII. The result was stunning: the new 6-cylinder XK was clad in a body with streamlined, sporty lines, a rare elegance and striking modernity for the late 1940s. The newcomer was called the XK 120 (for 120 mph, 193 km/h), and was an immediate success, particularly in the United States. Initially intended as a small production car, it was in fact a mainstay model that remained in the catalogue for more than 10 years, winning some of the British firm’s greatest sporting successes. Like the vast majority of the cars produced, our example was sold new in the United States by importer Max Hoffman, here in the most elegant colour combination: black on a red and biscuit interior. Crucially, the Jaguar Heritage certificate also confirms that the Moss engine and gearbox are the original ones. In the mid-1990s, a major French collector acquired this sumptuous English car. He didn’t part with it until 2021, after having driven it for several thousand kilometres, and made a number of welcome improvements to the model, including an additional fan, a lead-free cylinder head and a steering damper. Fans of the genre are in short supply of such beautiful XK 120 OTSs, so don’t miss the chance to drive one.
