ANONYMOUS No. 2137 Early 19th century Gold watch with slow-running duplex escapement Case: round on hinge, inside numbered with manufacturer's initials "FLB", fluted caseband, smooth back, gilded metal bowl Dial: white enamel regulator dial with central second hand, external minute track, off-center hours and minutes, Bréguet-style numerals and hands Movement: with key winding, three-arm balance wheel, slow-running duplex escapement, advance/delay adjustment racket on the balance bridge Diameter: 54 mm Gross weight 118,1 g UNSIGNED Early 19th century Gold dead-beat seconds watch with duplex escapement The mechanism of this watch recalls the work of the famous watchmaker Jean-Moïse Pouzait (1743-1793), nicknamed "the father of the dead-beat second". In 1776, this watchmaker submitted to the Société des Arts de Genève a memoir based on the principles of a watch using an "independent deadbeat second". Thanks to this pioneering invention at the end of the 18th century, many watchmakers followed the example of Moïse Pouzait's work, such as our example with a slow-running duplex escapement.
