TWO PIECES OF DEVOTIONAL JEWELRY in copper and white and black enamel, the first triangular in shape, pierced on one side with the monogram IHS Iesus Hominum Salvator (Jesus the Savior of Mankind); the other side featuring a devotional image of Saint Antoine de Padoue and the Infant Jesus; Attached is a medallion / devotional jewel in copper and blue, green, white and black enamel. The other is triangular, pierced on one side face with the monogram IHS Iesus Hominum Salvator (Jesus the Savior of Mankind); the other side with an illegible devotional image. Spain, circa 1620 / 1630 Heights: 7.9 cm - Widths: 7.7 cm These medallions, known in Spanish as firmzas, were made between 1620 and 1630. may have been intended as reliquaries. We know of several examples similar to ours similar to ours, the most resembling of which is is probably the one preserved in the Museo de l'Historia de la Ciudad, dated 1617 and illustrated in the the book (see, La Joyeria Espanola de Felipe II a Alfonso XIII, en Los Museos Estatales, Madrid 1998, cat. no. 98, p. 146). Other copper medallions medallions are preserved at the Musée du Louvre (OA 2971), the Museo Frederic Mares in Barcelona, the Museo Arqueologico Nacional in Madrid and the Lazaro Galdiano Foundation in Madrid.
