TREE-OF-LIFE" MOSAIC - Lot 13
TREE-OF-LIFE" MOSAIC featuring a labyrinth of of two-tone interlacing. On the right, a curved reserve depicts a bird resting on the bends of a fruiting vine. Colored tesserae on a background of beige tesserae. Early Christian art, 4th century A.D. 170 cm x 145 cm x 4 cm (Mounted with lime mortar on an aluminium aluminum honeycomb support) PROVENANCE - Former S. Dalati Collection, Stuttgart (Germany). - Private collection. The two-tone interlacing on the laces of the labyrinths are reminiscent of numerous Early Christian mosaics from the 4th and 5th centuries centuries, such as the one currently on display in the church of Saint Saturnin in Antony, which was originally from a church in northern Syria.
