BLOY Léon (1846-1917). - Lot 88
BLOY Léon (1846-1917). L.A.S. "Léon Bloy", Friday, July 15 [1887], to his "dear friend" [probably Robert du Pontavice de Heussey, cousin of Villiers de L'Isle-Adam]; 2 pages in-8 (small wetness at bottom of folio). Beautiful letter about an evening with Villiers de L'Isle-Adam. He came "yesterday evening, to your house at 7 o'clock. Huysmans, Descaves, Montchal and I had come to pick up Villiers and you to go and dine together in Montrouge, at Descaves's [father of writer Lucien Descaves]. Sorry to miss you, we ran to Villiers at his new address, rue Blanche 76, and miraculously found him. A fantastic evening! Saturated with art for 6 hours, a delirium of prodigious sensations. Wagner at the piano, stories, mimicry, improvisations. Villiers, whom I thought I knew, filled me with amazement, impregnated me with delight. Finally, Villiers slept with Totor [Villiers de L'Isle-Adam's son] in Montrouge and the rest of us returned home at dawn. [...] We're having dinner at my place tomorrow evening, Saturday, at 7 o'clock. Guests: Huysmans, Villiers, Descaves, Villiers, Landry and you, dear friend. [...] What will this feast be? I don't know yet. It will be very funny, of course. Villiers has us all in a panic"... He adds in a postscript: "Mon nègre blond tient à vous être présenté", [an allusion to his novel Le Désespéré, in which he described Louis Montchal as Georges Leverdier, a "blond negro"].
