Mercedes-Benz 280 S (W108) – 1968 - Lot 49
Mercedes-Benz 280 S (W108) – 1968 ERRATUM : Please note that the engine has been replaced by a more recent generation block (not conform). Luxembourg registration title Sold without contrôle technique In August 1965, a new generation of S-Class was introduced (W108 / 109), distinguished in particular by its more restrained stern, which lost its pointed rear wings, giving it a more elegant and timeless look even today; from a technical point of view, the engines were modernised and their cubic capacity increased. At the beginning of 1968, the 250 SE and 300 SE models were replaced by the 280 S and 280 SE, with a new 2.8-litre 6 cylinder engine developing 140 bhp in its carburettor version (S) and 160 bhp with fuel injection (SE); this generation of S Class received many variations and was a great success until September 1972, when it was replaced by the W116. Our example was sold new in Italy, initially as a carburetted version; Mr E. bought the car in Italy and registered it in Luxembourg in 2010, before preparing it to take part in the Trans-America rally from New York to Alaska in 2012. The car is in good condition today, with bodywork repainted a few years ago in its original hellbeige (181) colour, and air vents on the bonnet; The chassis is protected by thick aluminium sheeting, and the car is fitted with a large-capacity fuel tank with filler cap in the right-hand rear quarter panel, a 4-point roll bar, safety harnesses, a pair of Sparco bucket seats, a Brantz tripmaster and a fire extinguisher. This Mercedes has proven its worth in the past, and with its adventurous looks and quality preparation, it will be your partner of choice for your regularity rallies on asphalt, snow-covered roads or more exotic tracks. Presented at a very attractive valuation, it’s just one step away from adventure! “Your best ally for adventure!”
