Abarth 750 Sestriere Zagato – 1960 - Lot 30
Abarth 750 Sestriere Zagato – 1960 Spanish registration title Sold without contrôle technique In April 1956, at the Salone dell’Automobile in Turin, Carlo Abarth presented a small, elegant Zagato saloon based on the Fiat 600 platform and its famous 750 preparation. This first version, called the 750 GT and featuring Zagato’s famous double bubble roof, gave the model its letters of nobility, with a hat-trick in the 750 class at the 1957 Mille Miglia. Weighing in at 535 kg, the little scorpion propelled its occupants to 160 km/h on the clock. In 1959 and 1960, to complete the series, twenty-five more cars were produced by Abarth and Zagato with steel bodies and aluminium doors. Called Sestriere (in reference to the highly selective Sestriere rally, where the Zagato 750s won in 1958 and 1959), they featured a ‘flat’ roof and two enormous scoops on the rear bonnet, making them the rarest of the line. Under the colours of Escuderia Barcelona, this Sestriere has been modified to take part in the finest events on the historic calendar. As part of Historic Endurance, it took part in the Algarve Classic Festival and the Espiritu Jarama in 2017, as well as the Grand Prix de Pau Historique in the same year, winning the performance index and many other events. Even today, its performance means it can take part in the Tour Auto and even the Gentlemen’s Challenge by Peter Auto on circuits as famous as Mugello, Spa-Francorchamps, Dijon-Prenois, Le Paul-Ricard and Estoril. “Only 25 cars produced and eligible for the most prestigious events, including the Tour Auto.”
