Mercedes-Benz 300d (W189) – 1959 - Lot 20
Mercedes-Benz 300d (W189) – 1959 ERRATUM : No registration title Presence of a Swiss Customs clearance certificate Luxembourg registration title Sold without contrôle technique The culmination of the 300 range before the transition to the mythical 300 S certainly came in the form of the 300d, a flagship over 5 m long and weighing almost 2 tonnes; the styling was greatly revised, with the adoption of a unique roof that transformed it into a phaeton without pillars, but the most important aspect was certainly the powertrain, with the integration of the M189 engine. Our example joined the collection of its current owner in November 1996 when it left Switzerland: in 2001, a complete restoration was carried out, documented by a number of photos in the file. The overall condition of the car meets the expectations of the most prestigious competitions, as the quality of the work is so high; the paintwork is very beautiful, and the quality of the interior is absolutely stunning. The Bosch-injected 3-litre block with aluminium cylinder head, directly derived from the 300 SL, develops more than 160 hp and will have to be restarted as the car has only covered a few kilometres since its restoration in the early 2000s. This is probably the most beautiful 300d available on the market, and what’s more, it comes with an extremely rare driver separation! Not to be missed! “ The flagship of the late 1950s, restored to the highest standards”
